The Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) closed the week ended 28 August 2026 higher as its market capitalization gained ₦1.3 trillion, moving up to ₦155.826 trillion, with the All-Share Index (ASI) rising 0.81 percent reaching 241,298.47 points.
Activity, however, declined as the week comprised four trading sessions following the Federal Government's decision to declare Tuesday, August 25 a public holiday in commemoration of Eid-el-Maulud.
A total of 2.507 billion shares valued at ₦123.223 billion were traded in 173,561 deals, compared to 6.242 billion shares worth ₦157.764 billion exchanged in 186,496 deals the previous week.
The Financial Services Industry led trading activity by volume with 1.977 billion shares valued at ₦71.563 billion in 79,586 deals. The sector contributed 78.87 percent and 58.08 percent of total equity turnover volume and value respectively.
The Services Industry followed with 148.226 million shares worth ₦7.252 billion in 10,638 deals, while the ICT Industry ranked third with 117.982 million shares valued at ₦8.635 billion in 21,639 deals.
Fortis Global Insurance Plc, Jaiz Bank Plc and First Holdco Plc were the three most traded equities by volume. The trio accounted for 793.104 million shares worth ₦26.898 billion in 14,758 deals, representing 31.64 percent of total equity turnover volume and 21.83 percent of turnover value.
University Press Plc led the price gainers chart. The company recorded the strongest price appreciation during the week, rising 18.75 percent from ₦4.80 to ₦5.70. First Holdco Plc followed with an 11.58 percent gain from ₦129.95 to ₦145.00, while Seplat Energy Plc rose 10 percent from ₦11,200.60 to ₦12,320.60.
Red Star Express Plc gained 9.86 percent, while Transcorp Hotels Plc appreciated by 9.76 percent. Access Holdings Plc, Cornerstone Insurance Plc, UPDC Plc, Omatek Ventures Plc and Abbey Bank Plc also recorded gains of 9.26 percent, 9.18 percent, 5.97 percent, 5.63 percent and 5.59 percent respectively.
