Trading activity on the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) experienced an important liquidity boost during the week ended October 23, 2026. Despite a slight reduction in the overall market benchmark, investor participation expanded across key real-sector equities, driving total weekly turnover value well above the N110 billion mark.
During the five-day trading session, total equity turnover rose to 2.024 billion shares valued at N110.773 billion traded across 173,113 deals. This marked a growth from the 1.659 billion shares worth N98.088 billion exchanged in the preceding week.
The benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) and Market Capitalization edged down marginally by 0.13% to settle at 247,222.27 points and N160.519 trillion, respectively.
Consumer Goods Sector Takes Center Stage
While the Financial Services Industry maintained its traditional dominance, recording 1.111 billion shares worth N53.908 billion, the Consumer Goods Industry posted a notable surge in trading momentum.
Consumer goods equities accounted for 394.039 million shares valued at N9.811 billion in 17,912 deals, placing second in NGX weekly activity volume by sector. The Agriculture Industry placed third on the sectoral activity chart, generating a turnover of 147.170 million shares valued at N2.821 billion across 7,462 deals.
The trading activities in these top sectors were anchored by strong trading volume in Multitrex Integrated Foods Plc, Zenith Bank Plc and Livestock Feeds Plc. These were the top three most traded stocks for the week ended October 23, 2026. Multitrex gained 10.00% during the week to close at N0.66 per share.
Selective Rallies Amid Tightening Market Breadth
The growth in overall market turnover occurred within an increasingly selective trading environment. Market breadth closed negative, as twenty (20) equities appreciated in price compared to fifty-five (55) depreciating equities and seventy-one (71) unchanged stocks.
Despite the broader price corrections, selective buying interest sparked major rallies in transport and logistics assets:
ABC Transport Plc led the weekly gainers chart with a 20.66% surge to close at N7.30.
AVA Capital Plc advanced by 17.74% to settle at N7.30.
Caverton Offshore Support Group Plc appreciated by 17.07% to close at N4.80.
Fidelity Bank Plc recorded strong financial sector demand, rising 14.01% to N24.00 per share.
Strategic Takeaway for Investors
The expansion in weekly trading turnover to N110.77 billion highlights underlying market liquidity and active investor engagement on the Exchange. As investors rotate capital into high volume consumer goods and selective transport equities, the market continues to demonstrate specific sector opportunities despite minor headline benchmark adjustments.
