Trans-Nationwide Express Plc emerged as the best-performing stock on the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) during the week ended August 14, 2026, gaining 32.09 per cent as the broader equity market closed the week in negative territory.
According to the Nigerian Exchange’s weekly market report, Trans-Nationwide Express opened the week at ₦2.15 per share and climbed to ₦2.84, representing a ₦0.69 increase and a 32.09 per cent appreciation.
The rally placed the company ahead of International Energy Insurance Plc, which ranked second on the gainers’ table after advancing 31.68 per cent, from ₦4.04 to ₦5.32. Sovereign Trust Insurance Plc followed with a 13.77 per cent gain, while Chams Holding Company Plc and CWG Plc appreciated by 12.25 per cent and 9.74 per cent respectively.
Strong performance against a weaker market
Trans-Nationwide Express’ performance stood out because it came against a generally bearish backdrop on the NGX.
The NGX All-Share Index (ASI) declined by 2,954.40 points, or 1.20 per cent, falling from 245,573.60 at the end of the previous week to 242,619.20 on August 14. Market capitalisation also declined by 1.19 per cent, closing at ₦156.624 trillion. Only 26 equities appreciated during the week, while 59 equities declined and 62 remained unchanged.
A standout among the week’s gainers
Trans-Nationwide Express’ 32.09 per cent appreciation was also notable for the margin by which it topped the gainers’ table. Its 0.41 percentage-point lead over International Energy Insurance was relatively narrow, but both stocks were clear outliers compared with the rest of the top five.
The next three gainers recorded increases of 13.77 per cent, 12.25 per cent and 9.74 per cent respectively, meaning Trans-Nationwide Express gained more than twice the percentage recorded by the third-ranked stock.
However, the weekly report provides the price-performance data but does not, by itself, establish the specific reason behind Trans-Nationwide Express’ rally. Therefore, the 32.09 per cent increase should be considered as the stock’s market performance rather than attributed to a particular corporate development without additional evidence.
