The NGX Oil/Gas Index recorded the largest gain among listed indices, rising 4.54 percent during the week ended 28 August 2026. The NGX MERI Value Index followed with a 3.76 percent increase, while the NGX Commodity Index and NGX Consumer Goods Index gained 3.31 percent and 3.41 percent respectively.
The NGX Banking Index rose 2.89 percent, while the NGX Premium Index gained 2.29 percent. The NGX 30 Index and NGX Pension Broad Index appreciated by 1.03 percent and 0.98 percent respectively.
However, some indices closed lower, as the NGX MERI Growth Index fell 2.21 percent, while the NGX Growth Index declined 1.56 percent. The NGX Consumer Goods Index lost 0.67 percent, and the NGX Insurance Index declined 0.63 percent.
Meanwhile, NGX listed the July 2026 issue of Federal Government of Nigeria Savings Bonds on 27 August 2026. It comprised a two-year savings bond carrying a 14.716 percent coupon and a three-year bond with a 15.716 percent coupon, maturing on July 15, 2028 and July 15, 2029 respectively.
Overall, 24 equities appreciated in price during the week, compared to 18 the previous week. Fifty-five equities declined, against 59 the previous week, while 68 remained unchanged, against 70 the preceding week.
International Energy Insurance Plc was the worst-performing stock, declining 26.61 percent from ₦3.87 to ₦2.84. Fidson Healthcare Plc fell 17.69 percent, while Caverton Offshore Support Group Plc declined 15.15 percent. Zichis Agro Allied Industries Plc and Austin Laz & Company Plc lost 14.71 percent and 11.97 percent respectively.
Ava Capital Plc, Veritas Kapital Assurance Plc, Livestock Feeds Plc, TotalEnergies Marketing Nigeria Plc and Ikeja Hotel Plc also recorded declines of 10.96 percent, 10.77 percent, and 10 percent, respectively.
